Diary Entry

Dear Diary,
          I feel so different then I did a couple months ago. At the beginning of summer I was a lonely kid who didn't fit in anywhere and no one cared about me except my mom. But over the past few months, the quest Mr. D and Chiron gave me has changed me so much. Now I feel as if I'm invincible, beating the god of war in a sword fight, you know you have to be super awesome to do that. I feel as if I've matured so much over the summer too, I've learned to be happy with what I have because it can all be taken away in second. After this summer I feel like a finally have friends and I finally fit in somewhere, Camp Half-Blood.

Dear Percy,
         You do have a lot of problems, but I think I know what to do. You should ask Chiron and Mr. D for a quest to retreive Zeus' Master Bolt. I think I know who has it and is framing you and your dad, Mr. D and Chiron know too. If you accept your quest we'll tell you everything. It will be an extremely dangerous quest, very few campers have ever lived through their quest, and even less have suceeded. But if you do accept this quest you can count on me and Annabeth to help you and be by your side.

Letter 1

Dear Grover,
        There are so many problems going on right now. Zeus' Master Bolt is missing, and since Poseidon claimed me as his kid, Zeus thinks Poseidon used me to steal Zeus' Master Bolt. So Zeus, the strongest god ever wants me dead, great. I also need a quest so I can prove myself to Mr. Brunner, I mean Chiron, Mr. D and the rest of the campers. I need to prove my dad innocent and help him in his time of need, I'm his only chance. I don't know what to do though.

Journal Entry

Summer 2005

Dear Journal,

     I'm Percy Jackson, i'm in the sixth grade and I am dyslexic. I just had the craziest time of my life over the past two weeks. It all started off at Yancy when Mrs. Dodds attacked me after she transformed into a Fury. Mr. Brunner threw me a pen which transformed into a sword, with which I killed her. afterwards I asked Mr. Brunner and Grover where Mrs. Dodds was but they both said there was no Mrs. Dodds at school. Then I overheard them talking about how I was becoming suspicious and needed to go. After the school year was over, Grover offered to escort me home. He started to act really weird and looking really anxious and scared after we saw some three ladies on the side of the road cutting yarn. I ditched him right when I got to New York and me and my mom took a vacation to the beach. Late that night Grover knocked on our cabin door but when my mom opened it Grover had no legs, only hooves. He then said we had to leave now, so we got in our car and left for some special camp. On the way there lightning struck our car and a Minotaur attacked us. We ran as fast as we could to Camp Half-Blood but the Minotaur killed my mom then I broke off the Minotaurs horn and stabbed him with it, killing him. We then reached Camp Half-Blood where I was introduced to Annabeth and Luke and put into the Hermes cabin where all the kids that had unknown parents lived. I soon found out that my dad was Poseidon, god of the sea and horses. I am then sent on a quest with Grover and Annabeth to find Zeus' Master Bolt because Zeus thought I took it and is going to wage war with Poseidon causing world war three. Before we leave Luke gives me a pair of flying shoes who I give to Grover because Zeus will kill me if I enter the air. So we venture out and eventually encounter the Three Furies and they attack us and we blow up a bus and we escape. Then we find a shop called Aunty M's and we go inside. She's really nice to us but turns out to be Meduesa so we cut her head off and take her money. Then we send her head to the Gods at Mount Olympus. Then we take a train west and stop at the St. Louis arch where we encounter Echidna and her crazy psycho pet, Chimera. I start to lose so I dive out of the arch into the river. In the water Nereid a spirit of the sea gives me three pearls that will get me out of a bad situation. On our way to L.A. we stop at a diner and meet Ares, god of war who tells us to go retrieve his shield so he can help us. So we do and he gives us some information about my mom. So then we travel to L.A. where I cut off Procrustes the Stretcher's head. then we find the way to the underworld and go inside, we encounter Cerberus, guardian of the Underworld, a three-headed dog who Annabeth befriends and we go past. As were walking towards Hades' castle the shoes that Luke gave me almost drag Grover into the Pit of Tartarus where Kronos, Leader of the Titans, is captured but he slips the shoes off in time. then we enter Hades' castle and see my mother, encased in gold. We tell Hades to release my mom and give em the Master Bolt but he yells at me and thinks I took it along with his Helm of Darkness. He tells me to open my backpack so I do and there is the Master Bolt. He tells me to give it to him, but I don't and we use the pearls to escape, leaving my mom behind. We then appear at a beach in L.A. where Ares confronts us and tells us that he stole the Zeus' Master Bolt and Hades' Helm of Darkness, we then battle and I win by stabbing him in the heel, then he curses me and gives me back the Helm and Bolt and vanishes. We give the Furies who were watching us the whole time hte Helm back who give it to Hades. We then take a plane back to New York and go to the Empire State Building, to the 600th floor and give Zeus back his Master Bolt. I have a talk with my father and leave. I go home ot find my mom and there is a package with Meduesa's head, so I tell my mom to use it on Gabe, my step-dad who has been abusing her. She doesn't and I go back to camp. We're supposed to decide whether or not we'll stay at Camp Half-Blood full year or half year. As I'm thinking about it I go talk to Luke who summons a scorpion on my leg then he vanishes. The scorpion bites me and nymphs help me back to camp where I wake up with Chiron, a centaur and Annabeth taking care of me. I have a letter waiting for me and I open it, it's from my mom and she tells me she froze gabe into stone and sold the sculpture for money and thta she found a new school for me to stay at close by so I can be with her instead of at a boarding shool. I decide to go home for the school year and live with my mom. That's where I am now, writing down my adventures in this journal.

Plot Diagram (Resolution)

Resolution- The resolution is when Percy decides to go home with his mom for the school year instead of staying at Camp Half-Blood year round but before that he goes home to visit his mom before the betrayal with Luke. He gets a package from the Gods at Mount Olympus with Meduesa's head which he sent to them after he cut off Meduesa's head. He realizes that Gabe, his step-dad whom they both hate has been hitting his mom. So he tells his mom to show Gabe and his poker playing buddies Meduesa's head so they freeze into stone so she can get rid of him and his friends. She tells him he cant just kill him so Percy goes back to the camp and tries to decide whether or not he wants to stay there year round, then Luke betrays him. After he gets well from the scorpion bite he then gets a letter from his mom that she just sold her first art sculpture called "The Poker Player" and that Gabe has gone missing (implying that she turned him and his friends into a sculture). She then says she has disposed of the head, and that she has found a new school closer to home. He then goes home from the camp and lives with his mom. I chose the song "Live to Win by: Paul Stanley" because he lived, and he won.

Plot Diagram (Falling Action)

Falling Action- There are a couple of falling actions such as returning the Master Bolt back to Zeus and the Helm of Darkness back to Hades, but I chose a different one. When Luke, one of Percy's demi-god friends betrays him after he finishes his quest and returns back to Camp Half-Bood where demi-god children live their life. Percy and Luke are talkign alone in the forest when all of a sudden Luke summons a posionous scorpion that sits on Percy's leg. Luke then reveals how Kronos asked Luke to help him rise from the Pit of Tartarus where he his trapped. Luke is already mad at the Gods of Olympus for giving him a lame quest where he had to steal an apple from the Garden of Hesperides. So it isn't hard for Kronos to get Luke to help him. Luke then reveals that Ares is working for Kronos too. Then Luke vanishes and Percy jumps up and slices at the scorpion killing it only to realize it bit him in the process. He slowly attempts to get back to camp but is dying fast then nymphs come out of the trees and help him back to camp, where he faints. He wakes up in a bed with Chiron, a centaur taking care of him and recovers fully soon. I chose the song "Your Betrayal by: Bullet for My Valentine" because Luke betrays Percy.

Plot Diagram (Climax)

Climax- The Climax is when Percy battles Ares, the god of war. Percy visits the Underworld to confront Hades and get Zeus' Masterbolt back. But when he asks for it back Hades' gets mad and yells at Percy thinking HE stole the Zeus' Bolt AND Hades' Helm of Darkness, which none of the gods (besides Hades') nor Percy knew was missing. So then Hades tells Percy to open up his backpack, which he realizes suddenly got heavy. When he opened it up there was Zeus' Masterbolt, so Hades' tells him to give it to him and threatens him with his army of dead people. So Percy throws the pearls that Nereid gave to him so he could escape the Underworld. When he appears on the beach of L.A. Ares appears to him and reveals that he stole Zeus' Materbolt and Hades' Helm of Darkness and put them in Percy's bag when he last met him. A battle between them ensues and Percy ends up using the water to his advantage and stabbing Ares in the heel. Ares lays a curse on Percy that says whenever he's in battle he'll feel the curse. Then Ares vanishes in a bright gold shining light. The song I chose is "Unstoppable by: ES Posthumus" because this battle was pretty intense and that song is pretty intense too, plus it's titled Unstoppable and it seems that Percy is unstoppable.

Plot Diagram (Rising Action)

Rising Action- There are tons of rising actions in this book so I decided to sum them up with the song I chose. For instance, Percy fights Meduesa and cuts her head off, Percy fights Echidna and her rabid, fire-breathing, poisonous dog Chimera and dives out of the St. Louis arch into the river, Percy fights Procrustes the Stretcher and cuts his head off. He also gets magical pearls from Nereid, a spirit of the sea and befriends Cerberus, Hades' pet, a three-headed dog. He even retrieves Ares' shield from an abondoned water park called Water Land and confronts Hades, god of The Underworld. So for my song I chose the theme song from the movie Mission Impossible because this really is almost an impossible mission. The song is called "Mission Impossible by: Toques Para Celular"

Plot Diagram (Initiating Event)

Initiating Event- The initiating event is when Mrs. Dodds, Percy's algebra teacher, turns into a monster described with eyes glowing like barbeque coals, talon like fingers, large leathery wings and a mouth full of yellow fangs. At that time he didn't know but this was a "Fury" one of Hades' minions sent to destroy Percy. Percy has no idea what was going on but right before Mrs. Dodds attempted to kill him, Mr. Brunner, his Latin teacher, throws him a pen which, when Percy catches turns into a sword. He then slashes at Mrs. Dodds and she turned into a yellow powder. Percy is left standing in the hall and when he asks Mr. Brunner and Grover, his best friend, what happened to Mrs. Dodds, they both respond with "Who's Mrs. Dodds?". This battle is super epic and that's why I chose the song "Carminia Burana- O Fortuna by: Richard Wagner" because the song is really epic too.

Plot Diagram (Exposition)

Exposition- The book starts off introducing a sixth grader named Percy Jackson. He is dyslexic and always gets into trouble. One day, Percy goes with his school, Yancy Academy, a private, boarding school for troubled kids on a field trip. They go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at Greek and Roman stuff. Percy lives in New York, also known as the Empire State, that is why my song for the exposition is called "Empire State of Mind by: Jay-Z and Alicia Keys"
